Madrid Food Innovation Hub celebrates its second Startups Day

The multiple challenges of the food sector have promoted the rise of new entrepreneurship models with the aim of developing innovative solutions to transform the way in which we produce and consume food. Achieving a more sustainable, resilient and healthy food system is the mission shared by entrepreneurs from startup who go through the programs Madrid Food Innovation Hub, the incubator of companies in the food sector of Madrid Emprende. It's a hub pioneer in the world, with a kitchen-laboratory of more than 300 m2 for testing and prototyping, which is acting as a model for other entrepreneurship centers in the food sector outside of Spain.

Opened in October 2021, the center has incubated and accelerated to a total of 99 startup whose innovative solutions have an impact throughout the entire agri-food value chain. The center's activities, totally free, are aimed at training and supporting entrepreneurs in the creation, development and scaling phases of their proposals.

Startup Day

Within the framework of the activities of the hub, yesterday the second Startup Day, with the aim of attracting investors, potential collaborators or clients to learn about the most innovative projects and establish possible synergies.

The delegate of Economy, Innovation and Finance, Engracia Hidalgo, was present at the conference, who highlighted that "Madrid is synonymous with innovation in food with a hub where entrepreneurs from all over the world who consider us a benchmark in the sector arrive”.

For his part, Ángel Niño, Councilor for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, stressed that "the objective of the Startup Day It is to publicize the business ideas incubated and accelerated in Madrid, check their growth together with the council and generate synergies with other entrepreneurs and potential investors”.

The participating projects

A total of 19 participated in the day startup of the center, whose proposals cover all the links of the agri-food value chain, proposing effective and creative solutions to issues such as the revaluation of food waste, the elimination of single-use plastics in the food service, the creation of meat-alternative protein-based products and ingredients, the improvement of water resource management through urban vertical farming solutions, as well as apps and gastronomic digital platforms aimed at improving the consumer experience and offering healthier menu options.

The companies that met at this annual event were Cofling, Mr. Quick, Caldos Cooldo, Gourmeats App, Gastro4U, EatsyGo, Lai Lai Café, Naturquinoa, Naturefoods, Goxoa Sports Beer, Papa Chimp, The Spoon Army, Gloop, La Chef Eco , Vegasauria, Qualityc, Searchef, Aloalto and Wevo.
