Strengthen is a tax, labor and accounting consultancy service aimed at both self-employed workers and SMEs as well as large companies, betting on technological solutions.
It was born at the hands of a 25-year-old partner in a small establishment on Paseo de la Chopera 17 years ago. Initially, only he, with a prosecutor intern, and a labor person, began to do strong commercial work for small businesses in the area, and acquiring portfolios. Currently, they continue to grow both due to their commercial work, positioning on-line, and by purchasing business portfolios, currently being 92 professionals.
On the coffee break, Anthony He explained to us how they pivoted from a business model initially based on a franchise, to their own successful business and a benchmark in the consulting sector.
He greatly emphasized that to have a successful and growing business, good human resources management is necessary: “We were looking for personnel profiles who, although not very mature, were decisive and communicative, with a commercial profile. Motivating staff is vital: they can be either involved or committed (always more difficult)”.
He left us the following advice for people who want to start their own business:
- It is necessary to pivot to technological tools (it will mean cost savings in the medium term): “It is mandatory to analyze the tools of our sector, although it represents a major cultural change in our employees and in the management of the company.”.
- “It is very important to have a roadmap of our business (estimation of income and expenses) on an annual basis.”.
- When we want to establish new products or new lines: “It is important to have someone who is an expert on staff with a profile to help sell that service.”.
- He noted that “We are now in a framework of collaboration with clients and with competition in complementary services that allows us to create synergies and agreements that were previously unthinkable.”.
As a final phrase he highlighted that: “The most important thing about the company is its workers, the success of a leader is keeping his staff happy. Having good advisors is vital, always focusing on more competent profiles than those with a lot of technical knowledge”.
To end the day, the attendees shared a coffee and made networking in the common area of the Puente de Vallecas nursery.
