Awards of the XIII edition of the Startup Program

Summary

The project ghop from the Polytechnic University of Madrid is the winner of the XIII edition of the Startup Program, the largest inter-university entrepreneurship competition in Europe, organized by the Junior Achievement Foundation with the support of the PwC Foundation as main partner and a grant from the City Council of Madrid, through Madrid Emprende.

12 projects were selected to participate in this Competition in which they have had the opportunity to present their entrepreneurial projects before a jury with the aim of becoming the winners and representing Spain in the European Junior Achievement Europe Enterprise Challenge competition in which they The best projects from 20 countries will gather.

After a difficult deliberation in which the jury has taken into account the quality and originality of the projects presented, their innovative nature and their viability when selecting the best projects, ghop has been selected as the winning team of the Enterprise Challenge Award, which makes it the Spanish representative at a European level. Eduardo Sánchez, Trustee of the Junior Achievement Spain Foundation, has been in charge of presenting this award to this team made up of students from the Polytechnic University of Madrid who propose the creation of the first smart convenience stores without the need for staff in Spain, self-sufficient through a structure of recycled maritime containers that will allow diversifying businesses such as service stations.

The pwc award The project with the most growth potential in global markets, endowed with 1,000 euros, has been awarded by Santiago Barrenechea, President of the PwC Foundation, to Human Cap from the Alcalá de Henares University.

The award Innovative entrepreneurship of the Madrid City Council, via Madrid Emprende, to the project with the greatest technological, viable, innovative and creative impact, endowed with up to 3,000 euros in public price reduction for accommodation in the network of business incubators of the Madrid City Council, has been awarded by Fernando Herrero, General Director of Innovation and Entrepreneurship of the Madrid City Council, to Human Cap from the Alcalá de Henares University.

The ubs award to the project with best sustainable entrepreneurial practices, endowed with 1,000 euros, has been delivered by Mar Menéndez, Director of Marketing and Community affairs/CSR of UBS Spain, to WarnIA from the University of Seville.

The ASCRI Award The project with the highest feasibility projection, endowed with 1,000 euros, has been awarded by José Zudaire, General Director of the Capital, Growth and Investment Association, to Vitum Ecosmart Pallet from Ramon Llull University.

The Science Park Award from Madrid to the science and technology innovation project with the greatest potential for constitution, endowed with 6 months of free accommodation and incubation or two mentoring sessions and introduction to the ecosystem, has been awarded by Pilar Gil, General Director of the Science Park Foundation from Madrid, to ghop from the Polytechnic University of Madrid.

The program Startup Program of the Junior Achievement Foundation has PwC Foundation as its main partner, the grant from Madrid City Council through Madrid Emprende, the sponsorship of UBS and the Capital, Growth and Investment Association (ASCRI), and the collaboration of the Madrid Science Park Foundation.

About Startup Program
The Startup Program is an educational program of the Junior Achievement Foundation whose main objectives are to promote the entrepreneurial spirit in the university environment as well as create a community of young entrepreneurs. Starting from an idea, accompanied by tutors from universities and volunteer advisers from benchmark companies, the participants design their business model, acquire the personal and technical skills necessary for its development and analyze its feasibility. The program culminates with a national inter-university competition whose winner represents Spain in the European Junior Achievement Europe Enterprise Challenge competition. Nearly 200 university students have participated in this program during this 2019-2020 academic year.
