The second edition of the Incubation program for projects foodtech of the city of Madrid, promoting entrepreneurship, innovation and technology of the food sector. Recently, the agri-food sector has developed different disruptive food technologies to compete, thanks to the growth of convenience businesses, the new category of vegetable protein substitutes and the increase in food service.

The main strength of the ecosystem agrifoodtech Spanish are its emerging companies and Madrid Food Innovation Hub wants all this innovation to have a great media impact, being the direct support of the strength of the foodtech Spanish.

All these efforts will be developed in its facilities in the Villaverde district, a center that has a space for co-working for entrepreneurs and a kitchen-laboratory of more than 300 m², equipped with everything necessary so that they can carry out concept tests, evaluate prototypes and everything necessary to develop their projects.

Project types

This program looks for projects completely innovative and disruptive, that they meet in very incipient phase with a clear objective: to advise and prepare them. Madrid Food Innovation Hub is an expert in the entrepreneurial ecosystem and a leading strategic advice reference in the sector, with the tools and knowledge necessary for the development of agri-food projects.

The startup They must have the ambition to revolutionize the sector and have a very clear focus on the commercial viability of the projects and their contribution to the industry. Among the possible areas in which the projects could be framed, the following will be evaluated:

  • precision farming models
  • soil improvement by bio-engineering techniques
  • new food production techniques (3D printing, cell culture, fermentation, biosynthesis)
  • creation of new food ingredients
  • functional foods with a positive impact on health
  • novel food production technologies
  • machine learning and big data applied to product development and production optimization
  • upcycling of food surpluses
  • hardware and robotics applied to any point in the agri-food chain

It is intended for projects less than 12 months old, that have not received prior investment, that address the sector foodtech with an innovative perspective, projects developed in research centers and universities that can be the basis of new companies foodtech, that have an ambitious team and are based in the Community of Madrid.

In addition, projects promoted by unemployed people or people in situations of economic vulnerability will be especially valued.

Program

The program, which is completely free for participants, will last 12 weeks, during which those selected will receive:

  • theoretical and practical sessions
  • tutorials with experts to advance the development of the project
  • use of the center facilities (both the space of co-working like the kitchen-laboratory)
  • access to the greatest gastropreneur network with more than 25,000 people
  • demo days to present the projects, test days with consumers
  • presentations of their projects to potential consumers and investors
