The Madrid City Council, together with the Trade Promotion Office of Costa Rica (PROCOMER) and the Embassy of Costa Rica in Spain, carried out the first Costa Rica – Spain fusion food Showcooking, in the Chamberí market. This collaborative project aims to teach the Spanish consumer who buys in the capital's markets the existence of a varied offer of tropical products and how to use them in their daily preparations.
Costa Rican Chef Luis Guillermo Castro made a gazpacho using chayote as the main ingredient; Also some yucca croquettes and Iberian chorizo. He also showed the audience the manipulation, preparation and uses of cassava and chayote and their nutritional properties. Next, a tasting was held among those attending the event, merchants from the stores and the market public.
The Trade Promotion Office of Costa Rica (PROCOMER) has developed similar events in other communities in Spanish territory, betting on the fusion of ingredients such as cassava, chayote, pineapple, plantain, among others, with products from the land of these communities.
This is the first of the Showcooking that will be carried out jointly with the Madrid City Council within the framework of the project “Discover Costa Rica in the Markets of Madrid”.
